Our clinic provides a comprehensive service in the management of head & neck conditions. Head & Neck Surgery is an ENT subspecialty which deals with tumours in the head and neck region. These include benign and malignant tumours of the following sites:
  1. Thyroid gland
  2. Salivary glands (parotid, submandibular, sublingual, minor salivary glands)
  3. Nasopharynx (area just behind the nose)
  4. Mouth or oral cavity (eg. tongue, palate, floor of mouth)
  5. Throat or oropharynx (eg. tonsils, tongue base)
  6. Voice box or larynx (vocal cord/glottic, supraglottic and subglottic)
  7. Hypopharynx (inlet into the gullet/oesophagus)
  8. Nose & paranasal sinuses
Mt Elizabeth Novena is the only hospital in Singapore (at this present time) to have PET-MRI. This state of the art imaging system will enhance the evaluation as well as treatment of head & neck cancers.
We strongly believe in a multidisciplinary approach to head & neck cancer care and work closely with our colleagues from Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, Pathology, Radiology and other health care professionals.
The 5 most common procedures done within this subspecialty are:
  1. Thyroidectomy
  2. Parotidectomy and submandibular gland excision
  3. Excision of neck lumps eg. cervical lymph nodes, thyroglossal cyst, branchial cyst
  4. Surgery for benign and malignant conditions in the mouth & throat eg. tongue and tonsils
  5. Neck dissection for malignant neck nodes arising from nasopharynx (area just behind the nose), thyroid gland, oral cavity (mouth), oropharynx (throat), larynx (voice box), hypopharynx (inlet into gullet) and salivary glands.
